Service Information
TBTA Regional/County-Wide Service
Thunder Bay Transit Authority (TBTA)Hours of Operation
Monday-Friday: 7am-4pm.
Available for trips outside of normal operating hours if set up in advance.
Method/Rules for Scheduling a RideSchedule at least 24-hours in advance. (The more notice, the better):
Call the TBTA schedulers at (989) 354-2487.
Due to the distances involved, it is best to try and match your departure and return times to the schedule of the bus(es) that serve your area for the most cost-effective transportation. The schedulers will assist with matching the departure and return times to the bus schedule.
It is best to let the scheduler know if you have an appointment time. In order to ensure that you are not late for your appointment, when the scheduler asks your appointment time, allow a 15-minute window. For example, if your appointment is for 2:15pm, tell the scheduler that you need to arrive at 2:00pm for your appointment.
You can also schedule a “standing order” for service at the same time on several days of the week, a weekly trip (i.e. every Wednesday for school) and for long periods of time.

– Disability: Application to be filled out by client/rider. Additionally, a physician must complete the professional verification form. Disability must substantially impact 1 or more life activities
Transit Service Accessibility
Services are door-to-door/curb-to-curb, and there are seven lift-equipped buses in the fleet. The service is accessible to riders with disabilities as well as being open to the general public.
Additional Notes
In 2006, Thunder Bay Transportation Authority was organized and began operation as a public body under act 196 of the Public Acts of the State of Michigan to deliver the services formerly provided by the Thunder Bay Transportation Corporation and the City of Alpena’s Dial-A-Ride systems. TBTA merged the two systems into a single system to provide more efficient service to both the city and local rural areas.
